Fears that Iran is systematically mistreating political prisoners and dissidents have been further fuelled after the parents of three detained student activists claimed their sons had been tortured.
In a letter to the country's judiciary chief, Ayatollah Mahmoud Hashemi Shahroudi, the parents alleged that the students have suffered physical and psychological abuses since being incarcerated in Tehran's Evin prison in May.
The students - Majid Tavakoli, Ahmad Ghasaban and Ehsan Mansouri - were among eight from Amir Kabir University arrested for allegedly publishing anti-Islamic articles. The arrests followed a series of crackdowns on activists at the university, where students staged angry protests last December against president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad
Bakhtyar Rahimi, a Worker Activist is Kidnapped from his Home in the Middle of the Night
According to news from the city of Marivan, Bakhtyar Rahimi, a worker activist and a member of the coordinating committee (West wing) and an organizer of the May First gathering is kidnapped from his home. According to this news some unknown armed people forced their way into Mr. Rahimi’s house and kidnapped him along with his personal belongings such as computer, CD’s, camera and etc. Family members of Mr. Rahimi have said that kidnappers forced their way into the house without any explanation or legal documents and searching the place and barbaric conduct towards family members took Mr. Rahimi and his belongings. There is no information as to who these kidnappers are and which organization they belong to and where they took Mr. Bakhtyar Rahimi.
To Free Mahmood Salehi and Mansoor Osanlu
Yesterday 24th of July the International Confederation of Workers Union (ITUC) and the International Federation of Transit Workers (ITF) in a joint call to all unions and their branches all over the world, designated 9th of August as the international day of action to free Mansoor Osanlu and Mahmood Salehi. In this letter all member union are asked to take a definite action and go to the embassies of Iranian government with letters of protest on Thursday, 9th of August. This letter point to the experience of 15th February of the last year (the day of international unity with the striking workers of the United Bus Company) and asked the associated unions to take proper action to put presser on the Islamic Republic. The complete content of the aforementioned letter will be presented here.
The Worker Communist Party of Iran strongly supports the international action for immediate freedom of Mansoor Osanlu and Mahmood Salehi as in the previous year party cells played an active role in different countries in the international action of 15th of February, the party will participate with full force in the international action of 9th of August in coordination with workers unions; and will work for the immediate and unconditional release of Mansoor Osanlu and Mahmood Salehi and disclosure of the crimes of the Islamic regime against workers and people.
