SSU, Swedish social democratic youth, have been informed that a large number of students have been jailed in Iran because they defended human rights during student activities in December last year. According to the list produced by the families of the jailed students in their declaration, there were 45 of them in prison. We also know that these students have been tortured in prison. By this actions Iran showed the world that the students fight for human rights where extremely necessary in Iran. All humans are entitled human rights. Human rights include civil and political rights, such as the right to life and liberty. Freedom of speech is the concept of being able to speak freely without censorship. The right to freedom of speech is guaranteed under international law through numerous human rights instruments, notably under Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights, although
implementation remains lacking in many countries. The synonymous term freedom of expression is sometimes preferred, since the right is not confined to verbal speech but is understood to protect any act of seeking, receiving and imparting information or ideas, regardless of the medium used. SSU demands that the jailed students are freed immediately. Jytte Guteland President of SSU
